Drivin’ Around in my Automobile

21 Jul

ImageHunter brought this push car home from a friend’s house.  I was sure she was too small for it.

Obviously I was wrong.

6 Months and Back to Blogging

16 Jul

I obviously took a bit of a break from blogging.  The husband was home for the summer and family time just seemed more important.  He’s gone back to work and I plan on picking back up and posting 2 or 3 times a week.

Chloe turned 6 months old on the 7th!  How is that possible?  My tiny, crying baby is so full of personality.

Here she is playing with the paper at the doctor:

Her stats from her 6 month check up:

Weight: 17.4 lbs (75%)

Height: 27.25 in. (93%)

Head: 43.5 cm (85%)

So…she’s growing.  A lot.

Everything checked out well with her and we don’t have to go back until 9 months (no shots that time, yay!).  She got her 6 month shots and I spent a night and a day with a crying, fever ridden kid.  But we survived unscathed.

Her personality has really come through.  She laughs when she thinks something is funny.  She cries when she is sad/wants something. I feel like in the past month I have finally become a confident parent. I can generally figure out what’s wrong with her and fix it.  When she was little, I was so nervous that I was doing things wrong.  Now, however, I go with my gut and don’t worry about the “right” things to do, etc,.

Here’s a brief update of Chloe’s fifth month of life:

Sleep:  Still sleeping all night.  7-4:45, eat, 5-6:30.  She does wake up occasionally at night, but usually puts herself back to sleep quickly.  We’ve had a couple of weird nights here and there where she doesn’t sleep well, but that’s to be expected.

Naps:  We have a pretty good schedule going.  She naps at 9, 12, and 3:15 for 30-45 minutes a piece.  I was concerned about the short naps, but the doctor told me that some babies temperaments lean toward cat naps rather than 1 or 2 long naps. Ideally, I’d like her to take a short nap in the morning and a long nap in the afternoon, but I’ll take what I can get.  It’s predictable and it makes life so much easier!

Breastfeeding:  Still going strong.  I feel very fortunate that this aspect has gone so well for us.  She eats 5 times a day (4:45, 8:45, 11:45, 3, 6:30) unless she’s going through a growth spurt (then she pretty much wants to nurse all day).

Solids:  I want to do a whole post on this, but we did end up starting solids about a week before she was 6 months old.  She’s had a whole lot of different foods and is just now getting the hang of actually eating them.  Baby Led Weaning seems to be working for us and I couldn’t be happier about it.  It’s so fun to watch her discover new foods.

Motor Skills: She can sit up really well.  She only falls over when she loses interest or gets tired.  She’s also trying to crawl.  She gets her butt up in the air when she’s on her tummy and pulls her legs under her.

Language:  She’s the babble queen. She can say dada and mama, nana, rayray, yaya and others.  It’s really precious.  When she’s eating solid food she has to tell you all about it.  It proves to be rather complicated when she tries to talk and eat at the same time.  I guess I’ll have to get to table manners later.

She’s in 9 month clothes, although some of those are almost too short.

She’s the love of my (our) life and I’m so thankful that I get to spend every day watching her learn and grow.
